Chris Brown Comments on Concert Ban Petition
Chris Brown has responded to a petition seeking to ban him from performing in South Africa.
The American singer, who has faced multiple allegations of violence and abuse towards women over the years, is scheduled to perform two concerts in Johannesburg, Gauteng, in mid-December.
In response, Women For Change – a local non-profit organisation advocating against gender-based violence – launched a petition earlier this month. In it, they called for the cancellation of Brown’s concerts and barring his entry into the country.
At the time of writing, the petition has accrued over 41 000 signatures.
Women For Change promoted their petition via an Instagram post on Wednesday, 16 October, prompting Brown himself to hop onto the post and make the following comment (complete with a heart emoji): “Can’t wait to come.”
The 35-year-old’s comment caused a great divide online: many of his fans pledged their support to him, while others expressed outrage and disappointment at his response.
“This is what happens when these men don’t suffer real consequences after their disgusting crimes,” one frustrated tweep wrote. “They taunt you and get even more bold and disgusting. This is just sick.”
Women For Change has yet to comment on Brown’s remark.
